UBCD4Windows is the "one size fits all" BartPE rescue disc. I'm new and have some questions:

Can I burn the ISO onto a DVD+RW?
Does it include Windows' Disk Management (a GUI version)?
Does it include PnP USB drive support?

I'd like to use AutoStreamer to slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 2 onto my UBCD4Windows disc, but I'm not sure how.

My HP-Compaq PC came preinstalled with an OEM version of Windows XP Home Service Pack 1 (not sure if it's "a"). I don't have a Windows XP installation CD, just a Service Pack 2 CD from Microsoft and an I386 folder in the WINDOWS directory.

Do I slipstream SP2.cab at C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386, or C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386?

You may use CD or DVD's

UBCD4Win does have Disk Management included...

PE builds do not support hot pluging USB drives ( ie PNP ) but if you plug them in before you boot they should be recognised except in some cases that the motherboard doesn't initialize them early enough in the boot process.

The system should have come with one of the following.. a set of Windows install disks, a set of Windows Restore disks or a method to create a set of either of those... If yours did not, contact the manufactorer and order a set. In some cases they are free and others you only have to pay shipping if the disks were not included or a method to make them was not made available.

Read the pages on Slipstreaming on the main website.

I have Compaq recovery discs and a hidden recovery partition.

I did read the slipstreaming tutorial. I don't know where to tell AutoStreamer to look for the XP SP2 files?

Xp-Iso-Builder...

This is a utility that can help create an unattended install Windows CD along with many other features. It can slipstream a Service Pak, convert certain Recover Discs into a XP install CD, customize the install with third party visual styles or use a special theme, as well as other setup customizations. It also allows you to integrate drivers, updates and programs.

I've tested some of the basic features and they do work well... but I can't say how all of them will work. The website is in German but the program also supports English.

Rdsok, you're not listening to me. All I need to know is where to tell AutoStreamer to look for the SP2 files. Do I simply insert my Microsoft Windows XP SP2 disc, specify my CD-ROM drive for the location, and the program will copy the files it needs? Or, do I tell AutoStreamer the files are on my computer, and if so, what file or files?

If that is really what you think...

You have a nice day now... ya hear

( Heaven forbid that I know things that you don't about the situation according to what you posted, but now you will never know )

Such rudeness. If you'd have paid attention to what rdsok posted, and had thought about WHY he posted it, you'd understand that you do NOT have a windows XP CD at all.

An I386 in the Windows Directory does NOT an install disc make, neither do recovery discs.

Here, I'll italicize the VERY important section of rdsok's post for you:

convert certain Recover Discs into a XP install CD

The SP2 file itself, for streaming, may be located on that SP2 disc (personally I just download it as an installer file, because I"m not sure how those discs from MS work - I prefer the way where I know what I got)

Autostreamer however does require a Windows XP Source CD to stream the SP2 into.

In the future, please remember that some of the members of this forum have had THIS EXACT SAME question several times posed to them, and have solved it several times. We ARE here to help out after all.
Here since February 2007, and just now got 7 demerits. I love me some Troll thread.

Rdsok and Gedrean, I didn't mean any disrespect. It's just that these computer-forum "gurus" word their help in the worst of ways. It's like trying to put a 1,000-piece puzzle together that's missing pieces. LOL Please understand that when a newcomer asks for help, you must hold their hand from start to finish. Too many companies and forums are guilty of assuming the user knows, and it's ignorant to those that don't.

You see, my HP-Compaq PC came preinstalled with XP Home SP1. Then I ordered an official Microsoft Windows XP SP2 CD and installed it. If you'd kindly tell me the filename(s) I need from the XP SP2 CD, I could then copy and paste them inside a folder on my hard drive, and then direct AutoStreamer to that folder.

LOL bengt, I said I have SP2 installed. The AS tutorial doesn't apply to me. I don't have any of those files on my computer. I looked on the SP2 CD. There's several files and folders. The biggest file is around 266 MB and is a self-extracting, 32-bit cabinet. Is this it?

The instructions you were linked to were not on how to install the SP... They were on how to slipstream it into your Windows source files... which you don't have unless you had followed my instructions on how to create those first.

*sigh*

Alright.

Since we HAVE to hold your hand on this, let me explain it YET AGAIN since you apparently DID NOT read my original post:

YOU DO NOT HAVE A WINDOWS INSTALLATION SOURCE!
YOU DO NOT HAVE A WINDOWS INSTALLATION SOURCE!
YOU DO NOT HAVE A WINDOWS INSTALLATION SOURCE!

Here's some chalk, there's the board, have fun.

Please refer to the instructions posted by rdsok earlier for how to create a windows installation source from your recovery CDs.
From there Please refer to the instructions posted by bengt for how to SLIPSTREAM the SP2 into that windows installation source.
From there Please refer to the general instructions for creating a UBCD4Win.

Admittedly, PERHAPS Rdsok was not 100% clear on WHY he was directing you to XP-Iso-Builder but I will be 100% clear on this:
YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THAT STEP TO GET A WINDOWS INSTALLATION SOURCE, WHICH YOU CAN THEN SLIPSTREAM SP2 INTO USING AUTOSTREAMER, THEN BUILD UBCD4WIN OUT OF!

We've given you ALL the steps that are required to make yourself happy and successful and made of cheese!
