As a result of a severe malware infection, I need to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows. Before doing that, I would like to back up my data, but I can't seem to use my DVD drive from within Windows anymore. Is there any way I can use the backup tools in UBCD4Win to do this, even though I only have one DVD drive? I am assuming that if I boot from UBCD4Win, then I can't just take the CD out to start burning DVDs - please correct me if I'm wrong. If that is indeed the case, is there any way to copy my UBCD4Win CD onto a USB flash drive and boot from that?

You may want to consider just backing up to the USB flash drive instead... just make certain to plugin in the device before you boot.

You can also boot from USB if your system supports it. Use the UBUSB.EXE file found in the root of the UBCD4Win folder to create a bootable USB device.
Plan A is always more effective when the device you are working on understands that Plan B involves either a large hammer or screwdriver....

Thanks, I didn't know that it needed to be plugged in before booting. I had considered doing this too, but the main problem is that I only have a 4 GB flash drive, and roughly 60 GB of data that I want backed up (and about 55 GB of that is camcorder videos that I had been meaning to burn to DVD but never got around to). It's inconvenient, but if this is the safest way to do things, I'll certainly do it.

I'll try the UBUSB.EXE thing first, though.

Thanks for the response!
