Spy Sweeper

Why does that sound like one of those 'fake' spyware removers that actually contain spyware and whatnot in them? I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. Hopefully someone can help though if it is legit.

I think Webroot's SpySweeper is legit. At least, Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy don't freak out on it. lol.
But the current version is SpySweeper 3 and it looks like that plugin was made for version 2.6.1. I'm going to try this one out, because supposedly it can load the local machine reg/hive info and not just the CD generated info.

I can't seem to get it to work completely with SpySweeper 3, but I'm still working on it...
Perhaps some of the actual experts around here may want to take a look since it appears that you can choose a user's registry hive on the system to be scanned (an inability of other scanners which already have working plugins). I don't know enough about plugin writing to do more than try and muddle through. lol.

Duh! One of these days I'm going to learn to look at this kind of stuff more closely. lol. This SpySweeper plugin works just fine with Sherpya's XPE (which I don't normally use). And I used SpySweeper 3 too. And it allowed me to select a user's registry hive to work with also.

You do not get full functionality with the trial. Well, sorta. If you don't own a copy of it, you can only update it once (first time it runs). Other than that, it is fully functional. It's great software, and I've had way more times than I can count where it found meaningful things that Adaware, Spybot, and HiJackThis were unable to find/fix.

I agree that Spy Sweeper is a very useful program. It's one that we sell and use at work. Also, if you download a new version of Spy Sweeper which updates the definations (I believe) each time, I don't think there would be a problem with staying up to date on the disk.

Thanks Tony I appreciate it. It just helps to keep responses in the right topics. When you get off topic a good piece of information may be given, but then possibly lost. For example someone may search for this fix in the forum. If an answer was given in the topic "change drive letter" then the person may not check that topic listed in their search results. Maybe thinking the topic title isn't what they are looking for. This just helps keep the forum more organized and helps newbies with their search results, helping to stop multiple posts of the same subject.
Now we just need to hope someone has a fix for this.
